Bottom Line

This is a great picture card of the home run king and because it is one of the later ones you can get it at a reasonable price. There are a total of 3137 of these graded by PSA and can cost a pretty penny. Because of centering issue, this one is even more difficult to get in high grade than most others.

Bottom Line

Definitely far from the most collectable Hank Aaron card because it just doesn’t shine. But this is his first card with the Atlanta Braves, so that adds a little bit of historical importance. There is a low number of these cards graded by PSA. But they can be found in mint condition.

This is a very collectable card of Hank Aaron. It was said that the number of packs sold this year was down significantly as compared to previous and past years most say because of the Army draft. But with that said there are 3862 cards that were graded by PSA with only a few in mint condition.

A nice looking card of Hank Aaron. There are very small numbers of good conditions cards for this year because of the sensitive bottom corners where solid color extends to the end of the card. With that said, there are currently 2,392 certified 1963 Hank Aaron Baseball cards certified by PSA.

Very similar to the 1954 version other than the photo of Hank Aaron. Also the Braves logo is a lot darker. The image of Hank is him holding a bat that he picked out of a pile laying on the ground.

The back of the card is also very similar to the 1954 version. With the same off white and pink blocks. The working at the bottom changed to say “Buy Johnston – A Sure Hit Every Time”. The card also already shows his nickname “Hammerin’ Hank. The back states that Hank was as sensational rookie and that he became a regular due to Bobby Thomson’s mishap. The back also shows his stats for 1953 (minors) and 1954 Majors. The number for the card is also the number that Hank wears on his uniform.

About 1955 Johnston Cookies Braves Cards

These cards were released for 3 seasons for the Milwaukee Braves, most have poor print quality. The 1955 set would be the last set released. The cards are a little bigger than traditional cards and were panels that were inserted in boxes of cookies.

Bottom Line

The 1955 Johnston Cookies Hank Aaron card commands strong prices within the market. They are pretty hard to find, especially in good condition because the had to be cut by hand to make them into singles. The card is pretty much the same as the 1954 version but with an updated photo of Hank Aaron. The back of the card is off white with pink or red blocks along with the saying at the bottom “NO ONE MAKES COOKIES LIKE Johnston”. It shows his batting record for 1952 and a1953 in the minors. The card also says “Hank” is one of the brightest rookies in the minors. As we know he was also one of the brightest stars in the major leagues. There is also a silhouette of an indian with the number 5 in it.

About 1954 Johnston Cookies Braves Cards

This 35 card set was released only for the Milwaukee Braves. They measure 2″ by 3 7/8″ and is the second year Johnston Cookies released cards. Something unique to these cards are the fact that the number of the cards are the actual player numbers. These card contain an image of the player on the front with his name printed and signed at the bottom of the card. The back of the card displays the players personal details along with the previous seasons stats. These were considered by most to have poor print quality.

The 1955 Hank Aaron card is somewhat similar to his 1954, but the card is wide instead of tall. It actually contains the same head image from the 54 set. There is a really cool full color in action of Hank swinging a bat and next to that is a small circle image of the Braves logo. The background of the card is yellow and fades to the left. The bottom of the card has a red box containing his name in white and position and team name in black.

Although not the Hank Aaron rookie card, the 1955 Topps Hank Aaron Baseball card is very attractive and is arguably better looking than the 1954 rookie.
